Treasury is implementing a Congressional requirement effective with September 2001 ACH payments for SSA 3rd of the month payments. (Note: Due to the Labor Day holiday falling on Monday, September 3, the SSA file that would normally settle September 3 will actually settle Friday, August 31.) In addition to the regular SSA 3rd of the month file you receive from one or more Treasury Regional Financial Centers (RFC), you may receive a much smaller second file from one or more Treasury RFCs which will settle the same day as the 3rd of the month file. The payees on the smaller file were almost always in the larger file in previous months, and could revert to the larger file in subsequent months. Therefore, Treasury strongly suggests that you make no changes to your posting process that would preclude proper posting of customer accounts from either of the 3rd of month SSA payment files.
Treasury will originate the smaller files using the same Originating Routing Transit Numbers (RTN), Company Names, and Company Identifiers used in the regular 3rd of the month file.
