Celebrating Civic Responsibility
By: Craig D. Yarbrough

Dear Friends:

2000 and 2001 have been two of the most exciting and rewarding years I have had since joining Brinkman Technologies, Inc. in 1986. BTI has always been committed to delivering quality products and the best financial services possible but what you may not be aware of is that BTI is equally committed to its employees and the community. We at BTI firmly believe that what we put into the community ultimately determines the rewards we all receive in return. BTI encourages its employees and their families to remain involved in the community and fully supports their efforts.

As some of you know, in response to a Presidential Order, I spent the majority of last year serving as a Reserve Officer of the United States Army on peacekeeping duty with NATO forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina. First let me thank you for the many letters of encouragement and support I received while I was away. It was not an easy assignment but through your encouragement and that of my family and my employer, I made it through. Many of my teammates here at BTI volunteered their time to help establish a network to provide no-cost video teleconferencing facilities for use by the families of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines deployed to Bosnia so that they could visit with their family members. These face-to-face visits greatly improved our morale and allowed us to see our families, celebrate birthdays, even see a new grandchild for the first time.

BTI has fully supported my military career and for that I am grateful. In July, in honor of more than 14 years of support, Mark Brinkman, BTI's Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, was invited by the United States Army to tour my area of operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Mark arrived in Bosnia on July 3rd and received briefings from the Task Force Eagle Commander, MG Halverson, the Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau, MG Rees, and the NATO Supreme Allied Commander, GEN Ralston. The journal of his trip has been published and is available for you to read at our web site www.banksystems.com. Just click on the American Flag.

BTI has always supported my "other" career and Mark Brinkman's personal commitment to the military since his visit to Bosnia has been nothing short of extraordinary. Mark and I were invited by the Secretary of Defense to speak at the Secretary's 1st Annual Military Quality of Life Summit held at the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC last October. Mark and I have continued to speak on behalf of the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Many of you have requested copies of our speeches so we have posted several on-line resources for you at www.banksystems.com.

In the coming months, we will highlight noteworthy examples of community involvement and civic responsibility in this newsletter and on our web sites. If you would like to nominate your organization or an individual you know to be covered in a future issue, please write me at cyarbrough@banksystems.com. Once again, I would like to personally thank all of you for your support.

Respectfully,

Craig D. Yarbrough
